Brave recently designed a new wayfinding signage system for Hospital Emergency departments around the country. Never before had we been involved in a project with such civil relevance. The existing environment was cluttered, irrelevant and confusing.
The Department of Human Services presented an opportunity to make the emergency experience easier for people. It was as much an information design project as it was signage. We created a graphic system based around colour, typography and symbols.
The outcome was a system built on consistency while being flexible enough to adapt to the many environments in which it will exist. Installation is currently being rolled out nationally. The results of testing completed, has shown a positive effect on the patient flow from entrance to doctor.
